Metinvest Begins Monthly U.S. Coking Coal Imports to Support Steel Production

Metinvest has received its first U.S. coking coal shipment since 2025, as the bulk carrier Bison delivered 80,000 tonnes from its U.S. subsidiary, United Coal Company (UCC), to support Ukrainian steel plants Zaporizhstal and Kamet Steel. This follows the suspension of operations at Pokrovske Coal due to war-related disruptions. CEO Yuriy Ryzhenkov stated the imports will sustain jobs, steelmaking, logistics, and tax revenues despite higher costs. Metinvest plans monthly deliveries to ensure stable operations. UCC CEO John Schroder reaffirmed the company’s commitment to backing Ukraine’s economy through reliable metallurgical coal supply amid ongoing challenges.
