Metinvest has announced the suspension of operations at Pokrovske Coal due to escalating frontline conditions, power supply shortages, and a deteriorating security situation. The decision prioritizes the safety of employees and their families, who have been evacuated and provided with financial assistance, relocation support, housing, and childcare.
Pokrovske Coal, a key supplier for Ukraine’s steel industry, has faced insurmountable challenges amid intensified hostilities. To sustain steel production, Metinvest is sourcing coking coal from its United Coal Company in the US and securing additional supplies from third-party providers.
Despite a 5% year-on-year decline in coal concentrate production, Metinvest emphasizes its commitment to Ukraine's recovery. The company plans to resume operations at Pokrovske Coal once conditions allow, highlighting its dedication to supporting the country's resilience.
